Earlier this year, the then government published a consultation about so-called “transitional” subsidies for Drax and Lynemouth Power, making it clear that they wanted to grant both companies large new subsidies for burning millions of tonnes of imported wood beyond 2027 (i.e. once existing subsidies run out). This would be a disaster for forests in North America, Portugal and elsewhere, for the climate, and for communities at the frontline of the dirty wood pellet business supplying Drax and Lynemouth power stations.
Now that we a new government, we are calling on Secretary of State Ed Miliband to make true on his promise to make the UK a global leader on climate action and to protect climate, forests and communities by rejecting new subsidies for big polluting wood power stations.
Please join us by writing to Ed Miliband today!
