Say NO to burning trees for energy – Petition from Cut Carbon Not Forests

The Cut Carbon Not Forests coalition – of which Biofuelwatch is a part – has launched a petition to tell the UK government to stop burning trees for power, and we need your help.

The UK spends more money burning trees for energy than any other European country. In fact, an area larger than 50,000 Wembley Stadium pitches was logged in 2020, from some of our planet’s rarest and most special forests, like Canada’s Boreal, Estonia’s nature reserves and the wetland forests of the Southern US, which are at the heart of a Global Biodiversity Hotspot.

Drax Power Station in Yorkshire receives over £2 million every day in UK renewable subsidies, while emitting close to 13 million tons of CO2 every year.

At the same time, the UK Government claims it wants to lead the world in tackling the climate crisis, protecting nature, and cleaning up the air we breathe.

Burning trees in giant power stations is dirty and destructive. It’s polluting our environment, harming communities and threatening wildlife already at risk of extinction, like the cerulean warbler, woodland caribou, and Louisiana black bear.

Stop the UK burning trees for energySign the petition now and please share it as widely as possible through your social media platforms. You can help by sharing CCNF’s social media posts on Facebook or Twitter or by posting an organic post using the suggested copy below:

‘We are calling on the UK gov to stop burning trees for energy and we need YOUR help. Sign the petition and spread the word: #CutCarbonNotForests’

With your support the petition can be a success and we can make real change happen. Thank you.
